“Veterans are in the army and we have to thank them for saving us.” This is the explanation I received when asking my 5 year old if she knew what a veteran was. It’s pretty darn close to perfect, I’d say. She learned this at school during their Veteran’s Day celebration, which recognized family members of students that have sacrificed for our country. Then she questioned what veterans WE know, and the names just started flowing. Grandparents, uncles, friends, neighbors; all of whom have sacrificed for our freedom and our liberties. Even in our small circle, we are surrounded by bravery and patriotism. Veterans are a group that absolutely should be celebrated and THANKED.
